Bega Montessori School
Hand in Hand Parenting
I wasn’t going to run any group classes locally this year, I’ve only been doing them privately. But when Mrs McCollough approached me about running one at our beautiful school, I thought I’d love to bring these ideas to our community. Here’s a bit more about the class…
This six-week course gives you effective practical tools to make day-to-day family life go well.
Proven strategies to compassionately navigate everyday challenges like sibling rivalry, troubles with aggression, sleep struggles and picky eating

Why your child has meltdowns and how you can respond compassionately
How to read your children’s signals for help
Why rewards and punishments like star charts, time out, consequences and lectures don't work very well and what to do instead
Six connection focused tools that do work to raise a happy, well rounded child
How to heal your child’s fears
How to help an angry child become playful and compassionate
During the 6 weeks, you'll:

access to video’s of Patty Wipfler, founder of Hand in Hand Parenting, teaching the key concepts and strategies.
I don’t normally offer the online videos as part of the local classes, but I’m adding them in so we have more time together for me to support you personally and help you apply the ideas to your specific parenting challenges.
This course was developed by the not-for-profit organisation Hand in Hand Parenting and is based on over 40 years of work with children and parents. The Hand in Hand approach nurtures the parent-child relationship and focuses on children’s innate desire to love and be loved. It’s an emotion-focused approach that allows parents to put attachment theory into simple, everyday actions that strengthen and protect the vital attachment between parent and child including ways to set loving limits.
Here’s a sample of, Patty Wipfler discussing the instinct to connect:
Connection, intelligence and listening
Understanding your child's emotions
Why we "lose it" with our children
How to build a closer connection
Why Children's behaviour goes "off track"
How to help them
Children's emotional projects
Building confidence through laughter
Building support + Make a connection plan
